Valentines Day is Everyday

Today my husband and I took a drive into the city to find some good eats.  We bought a jackfruit and some sugar cane for $40.  That is about how much we would spend on dinner out.  As we ate it for supper, all the while laughing and enjoying each others company, I said to myself:

“Self, this is it.  This is your valentines day because

EVERYDAY

should be Valentine’s Day and I am not waiting”

Benefits of Jackfruit:

1.Low Fat – Jackfruit has very low content of saturated fat. This is one fact that proves that jackfruit does not aid in weight gain. The fruit contains almost nil amounts of fat. The fruit can be consumed in large amounts without fearing to gain weight. Jackfruit is a good option for people who want to lose weight or get in a good shape.

2.Low Sodium – Jackfruit has very low sodium content. This also helps to lose weight. Thus, the low sodium content proves that jackfruit does not aid in weight gain. Weight gain happens when you consume high amount of sodium. The low sodium fruit is a good diet option for people who want to lose weight fast. Thus, eating jackfruit is absolutely healthy.

3.High Fibre – Jackfruit has good fibre content. The fibre helps to break down fat layers and reduce the fat in the body. Fibre content also helps in digestion of food and clearing the digestive system. Fibre helps to boost energy in the body and stimulate the body processes. Thus, jackfruit is a healthy choice for people who want to lose weight.

4.Nutrients and minerals – Jackfruit is rich in many vitamins, minerals and nutrients required by our body. Jackfruit can be helpful for detoxifying our body. These healthy nutrients do not cause weight gain. Hence, this fruit is not responsible for any extra kilos added to our body. Instead, jackfruit is a healthy food which has many other nutritional benefits for the skin, hair and body. Jackfruit is indeed a jack of all health benefits.

We love sugar cane!  So do the children!

Benefits of Sugar Cane:

  • It cures a sore throat, cold and flu.
  • Unlike table sugar, it has no simple sugars. Diabetics can therefore enjoy it without worrying about soaring blood sugar levels (those with type 2 diabetes should still have limited sugarcane juice).
  • It provides glucose to the body, burned by the muscles to provide the body natural energy. It re-hydrates the human body fatigued from heat and physical activity. It’s known to boost performance in athletes and manual laborers.
  • It’s recommended for fevers which cause great protein loss from the body. Liberal consumption of sugarcane juice provides the body with protein during febrile disorders. It also brings down high body temperatures during fevers.
  • It’s an ideal thirst quencher and cooling drink during summers. It keeps the body hydrated.
  • The easily digestible sugar in sugarcane juice helps in speedy recovery from jaundice. The steep fall in glucose levels during jaundice; may be replenished by having 3 to 4 glasses of sugarcane juice daily.
  • It’s good for the digestive system and also helps with constipation because of its high potassium content.
  • It has a wide range of compounds in addition to sucrose which bestows it with wound healing properties and strengthens the immune system.
  • Regular intake of sugarcane juice strengthens the stomach, kidneys, heart, eyes, brain and sex organs.
  • It lowers body cholesterol- both LDL and triglycerides
  • It makes your eyes cross heheheh

She also goes bananas for bananas!

So I know that I (The ‘Determined’ Housewife) have not blogged for a while. I’ve had some ups and downs in the last two weeks. From struggling with misbehaving kids, unsuccessful job hunting, financial difficulties, emotional days and just dealing with everyday stresses. I had even put on 3lbs back on, luckily I have dropped them again plus an extra half a pound. What is funny is that my husband who is eating the same foods as I am is also loosing weight, which dont get me wrong is super fantastic, however he keeps staying just a pound under me everytime! Very frustrating when all I want is to weigh less than my husband. Its kind of fun though and we sometimes end up play fighting about it which is good for our marriage and our souls.

One of the things I want to talk abut this week is the struggle of affording healthy food. I cannot believe how difficult it is to eat healthily! As I mentioned we have been going through some financial difficulties, so now buying the right foods is NOT easy by a long shot. No wonder there is so much obesity problems, its cheaper to buy a loaf of bread and a jar of Nutella than it is to buy a couple different bags of fruit! Its cheaper to buy a box of granola bars than it is to buy some salad items. Nuts are expensive and so is Avo. I am lucky to have two children who love their fruits and vegetables, so we are always trying to keep stock of it, however its cheaper to make a pasta than it is to make a skinless chicken breast and vegetables. How crazy is that! So the last two weeks there hasnt been too much ‘healthy’ eating in my household, I have still tried to keep portion control a big part of it and we have been eating a little earlier than usual which is also good (with no snacking after our last meal). It helps when we put up the guard rail upstairs, no one wants to climb over it to go get anything 😛

I went to the shop the other day to buy Milk, cucumbers, 2 tins of cat food, banana’s, 1 pack of bacon a small pack of mince and 3 jars of bodywash and it cost me $42! Talk about feeling like you should be putting something back! We needed it all though and I just prayed that it wouldnt decline my card, how embarrassing would that be!

I know my post is a little scattered this week but alot has been going on, I havent seen Rachel for exercising and havent been getting much done on the home front either. My car hasnt been warming up nearly as fast as it should be and I drove 32km for an interview yesterday and by the time I got there, I could not feel my fingers or toes. Hubby checked and I need anti-freeze (which we cannot currently afford), trying to find a job has not been an easy task (even applied at the grocery store in hopes of just having something, apparently I’m not good enough to work in a grocery store), I’ve been an emotional wreck due to all of this and my kids have been driving me insane too.

All in all, its been a terrible two weeks and I’m just feeling down in the dumps.

Here’s to hoping things get better

Much Love: The ‘Determined’ Housewife
